EGG GENIE is an electrical egg cooker that is simply a hot plate that one can pour a measured amount of water on. The hot plate bowl creates sufficient heat and steam to cook the eggs. A lesser amount of water will produce soft boiled eggs; more, results in hard boiled eggs. A buzzer sounds when the cooking time is complete.
While the Egg Genie does ‘Work as Advertised,’ I found a few concerns as to the overall value of the product. 1. The video ad states that the product includes a vegetable steamer. The one we purchased came with an Egg Poacher tray instead. 2. The Ad Video showed the egg piercing pin to be on the bottom of the measuring cup. Ours was on the tray. Finally, 3. We question “How much of a real problem is it to hard, or soft, boil eggs?” Is not it common knowledge that a room temperature egg boiled for about 10 minutes produces a hard boiled egg? What happened to the ‘three minute egg’ for a soft boiled egg? What is the problem? Are there actually people out there that have trouble cooking a hard boiled, or soft boiled egg? Additionally, with the Egg Genie, now we have more items to clean when we are finished. Alternatively, all you would have to clean is the sauce pan used to boil the water. Possibly, for consistency in cooking hard, medium, or soft boiled eggs there would be value to consumers. I really wanted to try the vegetable steamer!
