What is it? An electronic simulated Jump Rope.
HEALTH-RELATED DISCLAIMER: Please note that ASOTVI makes no official statements and has done no evaluations as to the long-term health benefits of this particular product/program. Any fitness or exercise product’s/program’s effectiveness will be a cumulative function of the health of the user, genetic background, pertinent health risks, their diet, activity levels, and their personal discipline to consistently engage in a regular exercise program. Please consult your physician if you have any questions or concerns over the appropriate use of any exercise program or product.
The premise behind this product is to enable the user to enjoy the benefits of athletic jump roping, such as that used by boxers, but without having to possess the coordination and dexterity to master using an actual jump rope. There’s nothing to trip over or get your feet tangled in, no hand-foot coordination to master. The product simulates jumping rope much the same as a stationary bike emulates riding a bicycle, a treadmill enables stationary walking, jogging, or running, etc. You are, in essence “pretending” to jump rope, but the sound effects and feel of the product’s handles serve to help make the experience feel more real.
One of the primary benefits of this product is the computer built into one of the two rope handles. It allows up to two users to enter their height and weight information, and then keeps track of the length of a workout, calories burned, number of jumps, etc. It even includes a stopwatch function. This is very useful in tracking your workout progress. We observed these functions to be easy to configure and worked fine.
The product also offers additional small metal weights that can be added to each handle to increase the challenge of your workout. They are easily installed by removing a cap on the end of the handle and inserting up to three weights per handle.
It’s very important to note that the product comes with an important “Beginner” DVD that explains how to configure the product and how to use it properly. It’s not hard to do, but you need to follow the instructions carefully to make sure you get it right.
The DVD also contains two timed workout routines, an 8-minute version and a 12-minute version. Its 4-week recommended workout program starts with the 8-minute workout for each weekday, graduates up to the 12-minute version, and eventually combines them both for a 20-minute workout. The vendor’s website offers several other workout DVDs for intermediate and advanced workouts, as well as kits for group use with an instructor version available.
Due to the fact that you are not slinging an actual rope around you, which would require a good bit of room to do for safety sake, this product makes it convenient to do your workout in the comfort and privacy of your own home, in front of the TV, watching the suggested workout videos. The product also comes with a mesh carrying bag to use, for example, should you be headed to a group aerobics class, or taking it along on the road with you while travelling.
Now while it is up to each individual user to consistently use any piece of exercise equipment or health-improvement program if you expect to see positive results, our observation of the basic functionality of the “Ropeless Jump Rope” was that it works as advertised. It was also fun to play with.
