 What is it? An easy-to-install instant screen door.
This product is a ready-to-go mesh screen that installs quickly in a doorway that lacks a screen door. This would be useful for any exterior door where you’d like to enjoy fresh air and increased ventilation in your home – especially when you are not running your air conditioner and saving money and energy.
In our evaluation we installed this product in an interior door to observe its ease of installation and basic functionality. Normally, you wouldn’t use a screen on an interior door, but in our test location all exterior doors were six-foot sliders that already had screens. So when you watch the video, rest assured that you’ll still get an accurate impression of what this product really looks like and what it can do.
Indeed, we found it easy to install and required no tools. Step one is to unscrew the tension rod to the appropriate width of the door you wish to install it in, making the rod a little wider than the door opening. You then insert the tension rod in the tunnel at the top of the screen (there are two available tunnels depending on the height of your door), and then you’re ready to hang the screen.
After the tension rod is secure, you adhere the adhesive tape of the six Velcro pads (two up high and four at the bottom) to the inside edge of your door frame. We were surprised to observe how much tension can be achieved by these Velcro pads. That is, the screen doesn’t hang loose like a curtain, but is tight, like a traditional screen. The bottom is also weighted, adding tension vertically as well.
The center opening is kept closed by means of two magnets, one in the center of the screen and one at the bottom. These are two-inch magnets, securing a two-inch overlap between the two panels of the screen. We didn’t observe the magnets to hold so tight that it was difficult to come and go through the screen, and that goes for both humans and pets. Gravity pulls the panels back in place after entering or exiting, securing the opening once more.
The black screen mesh is heavy, with very fine holes. It would be at least as effective in preventing flying insects access to your home as any other traditional window or door screen you may currently have.
The vendor offers a variety of sizes of this product and it is necessary to order the product by the exact dimensions you require. They also offer this product for French doors and sliders, i.e. where you may prefer the opening to be skewed to one side or the other and not in the middle.
We observed this product to work as advertised.
