What is it? A hand-cranked meat tenderizer.
This product consists of two thick plastic rollers that feature rows of pointed “teeth” used to tenderize meat—as opposed to the traditional method of using a tenderizing mallet and pounding the meat for a considerable period of time. This product accomplished that function much faster and easier.
The rollers are mounted in a plastic frame, featuring a crank handle, which when turned, rotate the rollers. Meat is passed between the rollers, and thus is exposed to the teeth for tenderizing. The degree of tenderizing is controlled by how many passes through the rollers you wish.
Tension is maintained between the rollers by means of two rubber O-Rings, that are twisted into a figure-eight. This is important to ensure that the rollers roll in opposite directions from each other, thus allowing the meat to pass between them moving in one direction. The flexibility of the O-Rings also allows it to self-adjust to the size of the meat you are tenderizing, requiring no other manual adjustment.
In our evaluation (see video), we used a couple of fairly large pieces of round steak, which the product successfully tenderized upon multiple passes through the rollers.
The product’s instructions discuss the use of various marinades and seasonings, which if applied to the meat prior to tenderizing, get infused into the meat during the tenderizing process. We did not conduct an evaluation of that function in particular, but from our observation of the depth of penetration of the teeth, we would conclude that anything on the surface of the meat would logically penetrate into the meat via the force of the teeth.
We observed this product to work as advertised.
