What is it? An oven liner.
This product is a thin sheet of light brown flexible plastic-like material made to go in the bottom of an oven to catch food drips during cooking. Two of them were included. Its surface is very slick, which makes clean-up later very easy and convenient. The maker of this product cautions not to use it when baking in excess of 500 degrees, which presumably is a point at which it could begin to melt. Most baking recipes call for temperatures far less than 500 degrees, although broiling can produce heat in excess of that amount.
For our evaluation we used it in baking a cherry pie, and deliberately chose not to use the pie’s baking instruction’s suggestion of placing a cookie sheet under it, so that the oven liner could instead catch any drips from the pie. The pie did its part and during the baking process dripped cherry sauce, which at 400 degrees, soon solidified and blackened. Upon removing the oven liner after baking, the drips did not stick to the liner, but wiped away easily.
What distinguishes this product from simply using a piece of aluminum foil for the exact same purpose is that unlike foil, which food can stick to and bake on and then must be disposed of, this product can be reused again and again. The liner can also be trimmed to accommodate other cooking appliances such as a microwave or toaster oven.
This product works as advertised.
