What is it? A steam mop.
This is a very simple and straightforward product used to clean hard surfaces – basically anything other than carpet (e.g. tile, wood, linoleum, vinyl, laminate, etc.).
It easily assembled and was ready for use in minutes. To use it, you start by filling its reservoir with water, using the included funnel and pouring container. It comes with two cleaning pads that attach to the bottom of the unit’s head via Velcro strips. Plug it in and 30 seconds later the unit heats up and is ready to mop. No floor cleaners or detergents are used. The heat of the steam produced serves to disinfect surfaces.
The user pushes down on the handle, driving it into the head with a pumping action, to prime it with pressure, and repeat this action occasionally during use to maintain pressure. The unit forces hot steam through the pad and onto the floor, which can effectively melt sticky residue and gets up dirt and grime very well.
The primary benefits of using steam to mop are the fact that you are not continually mopping and wringing out a mop, but mopping continuously, making the job go much faster. Also, the heated steam evaporates quickly and the drying time of the floor is very, very fast—seemingly almost instantly.
For really heavy jobs, the unit comes with two pads, should one become very soiled before the job is done. The pads are machine washable for reuse.
We observed this product to work as advertised for general cleaning, but you wouldn’t use it to mop up a major spill or flooded area. That would still be the job of a sponge-mop or traditional cloth mop, so if you try this product, it might be prudent not to throw your old mop away.
