What is it? A credit card sized digital Photo Album

Major Claims:
  • Software Included
  • Easy

Indeed, this product was easy to use, although its function as a USB device was intermittently successful with multiple computers. That is, sometimes a computer would recognize the device, sometimes not. Sometimes if you just tried a different USB port on the same computer it would work. The key was just to be persistent and keep plugging it into ports until the PC recognized it.

Once the device is recognized, its own file management application fires up automatically. No software installation is required. The software utility is very easy and intuitive to use. Simply click the “Add Image” button, and you get a normal Windows file dialogue box that allows you to navigate to the pictures you wish to load and click OK. You have the option of controlling the order of the pictures by selecting one and moving it up or down in the list. You can delete pictures one at a time or all at once.

The next step is to hit the “Save” button which transfers the picture to the unit. Once saved, the buttons on the front of the unit are used to turn it on, initiate its slideshow capability, or manually scroll forward and backward through the list.

We did investigate whether or not the unit could be used like a generic Flashdrive—that is to manually move files from the PC to the unit via the Windows file manager, and that function was not allowed. Windows sees the Wallet Pix as a “Read Only” device. The internal application must be used to move pictures to the unit.

The only item of note we’d like to point out that a consumer may wish to consider is that even though the picture screen on the unit is full color and bright, it’s just a little over one square inch, smaller than most screens on cell phones these days. So while the product works as advertised, the end result photo is very small.

Battery life was not evaluated with this product, although it comes with a full set of batteries (3 watch sized batteries), plus a complete spare set. So the product is ready to use right out of the package.
