What is it? A Personal Sound Amplifier
Basically this is a “poor man’s hearing aid.” It consists of a small base unit, smaller than a credit card, that comes with a clip for a user’s belt or pocket. Functionally it has an on/off wheel that also serves as the volume control and a headphone jack. The product comes with a standard pair of ear buds for listening, and its AAA battery is also included.
The microphone is on the top of the unit and was observed (heard?) to be quite sensitive. In fact, the only issue of note that we observed with using the product is that sounds originating very near the unit such as it being touched, breathing, coughing, or sneezing could be quite loud as compared to sounds in the distance that the user may have adjusted the volume in order to hear.
In the video we shot, it was admittedly somewhat difficult to illustrate the product’s effectiveness in terms of putting the ear buds up to the camera’s microphone—which certainly isn’t as comparable to actually placing earphones into the human ear. However, when we adjusted the volume to its max, even on the video you can hear the amplification offered.
We find this product to work as advertised. For those who are a little hard of hearing, this product would surely be very helpful.
